Carpe Noctem

A little belated, this is my second-to-last illustration for my sci-fi illustration class from last semester. Its a vignette staring a small handful of original characters from my prospective neo-Victorian vampire epic “Carpe Noctem” which appropriately means “seize the night” (inspired by the song of the same title by E Nomine [link]). From left to right its Cadmus (the shadowy figure turning into birds), Liam (the kick-ass gay action hero) and Caroline (the flame-thrower wielding feminist heroine).

Carpe Noctem actually refers to the heroine Caroline’s flame-thrower: that bronze thing falling off the roof beside her. She made it herself! Its for roasting vampires! In all those old-school fantasies, the hero always names his magical sword. Well, Caro figured she should name her weapon of choice as well-- for luck, for laughs, for the unknown!

This is not a love story. The vampires will eat you. And absolutely none of them sparkle.
