His Work Unfinished by MNat His Work Unfinished by MNat
Abacus! Yes! Guy who looks like he fell out of Interview with the Vampire? Double-yes!

This is my first illustration of the new semester: the frustrated mathematician (I've never been an expert on the maths so this is basically how I felt blundering through all 3 retakes of algebra).

I wish the photo of it came out better but alas! No natural light! So its a bit blurry. Do forgive me @.@

This is great.

Though, on first glance I thought it was a scientist who made and important breakthrough and in excitement stood up suddenly and spilled the ink all over the proof! Ack!

That's a great interpretation :D My idea was that it was a mathematician stuck on a problem and knocking things over in frustration, but I like yours better. "I've finally got it--DOH!" x.x

It doesn't work. :faint:

See. This is what math does to you. D: Srsly - algebra should be banned!

This is the most realistic looking picture I've seen from you! It's gorgeous and his hair is all real, scraggly and wonderfully unwashed. C: *smells it*

Oh gosh. I can TOTALLY sympathize. (runs to hug this struggling mathematician--whose hair is amazing, by the way)
Math is EVIL. It's just . . . EVIL.

But gooshhh your detail and lighting, it's so very pretty! @__@ And I'm so loving his pose.

I feel his pain. ;___;

I love all the objects you put into the foreground. It puts him in context and kind of frames him (or traps him, lol).

Also the perspective and textures on the walls an floor are fabulous. Especially love the flagstone floor. :)

I liked doing the floor too. :D It was just about the least difficult part! However....-_- Too much detail! Unneeded! says my teacher. Well, that just goes to show ya...We all think differently! (However I painted it so I get the final say thppp :P) :D:D:D

Really? She said the detail was un-needed? I dunno, I think it puts him in context... plus I just like detail. To me it says you cared about the picture and you tried to make it maximal-y interesting.

(I just finished reading ten different scientific papers on bird-window collisions so if I'm mildly incoherent, please understand...)

Depends on the assignment too I guess, but to me it's just your style and everyone's entitled to be as minimal or detail-driven as they naturally are. Just like realism and straight up toons have equal merit. At least to me. It's all art!

...which class was this for again?

Yeah, its alright @.@ That was actually perfectly coherent considering what you have clearly suffered through.

This is for my Narrative Painting course. :D We recieve a list of prompts for each assignment, ranging from a sentence to paragraphs, and our task is to faithfully and creativly fullfil the written-word requirements in a graphic medium. For this assignment the sentence was simply "The mathematician was frustrated" which leaves alot of room to interperet. Next assignment: Vespa Jockeys! :D
